Touchpad not showing in device manager in last 3 days Spin SP314-53N. My touchpad, mouse and touchscreen were all working fine for over a year. Suddenly the touchpad stopped responding completely. The touchscreen and laptop work fine. The touchpad is still activated in settings.
When I click the Properties of the Driver in Device Manager, this message is in Device Status "This device is not present, is not working properly or does not have all its drivers installed. Acer's website offers two touchpad driver downloads for this specific model, one by Synaptics and one by Elantech. (No idea why two - searched for drivers by serial number, upon which website displays correct laptop model and these two drivers among many others.) Ran setup.exe from both.
First problems started when Windows did not recognize the touchpad, and during installation also the WiFi. I had to resort to using a cable to connect to the internet for the install process. Once Windows was up and running the Wifi issue was automatically fixed, but the touchpad still did not work. I finally managed to fix the touchpad issue by:
The touchpad stopped working; I had been using Kubuntu long term sevice for a long time, then the touch pad would not work; I started using the wireless mouse, then went online to find a fix for the touchpad. The fix I found started the touchpad working again: continuously press the fn7 key until the pointer starts working again.

Best Answer. One of the most common causes of a laptop touchpad not working is that you've accidentally disabled it with a key combination. Most laptops have an Fn key that combines with the F1, F2, and other function keys to perform special operations.
